All that talk abut 50 dollars to chanche batteries,a batterie is only 4 dollars and you find them everywhere,i chanched them myself.There are also solar watches,they last forever and they are very acuurate. Seiko doesn't publish accuracy information for watches with the 7s26 movement (this watch has one), because it's not terribly impressive (most leave the factory doing +/- 25 seconds a day, whereas an Omega might be built +/-10, but cost MUCH more). They tend to run fast out of the box and then wear in over a month or two. Mine's currently gaining 14 seconds a day (down from 17 secs/day) after a month of wearing it nonstop, which is perfectly acceptable for me.
This watch is very bright, so as long as you were outside for about five minutes, it'll be bright enough to see in the dark for about 12 hours after that. I get up in the morning and it's still pretty bright after being on my wrist under a blanket for the past 8 hours.
As far as Amazon.com went for this watch: I got it right away, but I don't know if I'd buy from amazon again. Amazon isn't an Authorized Dealer for Seiko, so you don't get a legitimate Seiko warranty (at least, not to my knowledge). Seikos are pretty tough as far as automatics go though, so it's unlikely that my watch will crap out. Just something to keep in mind, since ADs abound online and their prices are competitive with amazon. Customer Rating: Summary: Good watch for a great price Comment: The other reviewers were right; this is a very good quality watch, but a tad fast. Being a bit fast is OK as it makes me more on-time! For diving, I don't think the difference in time matters as I'm down long enough. And being fast makes the dive time allowed more conservative. Anyway, it the quality is good considering the price. I looked at the Omega Seamasters and they are considerably more money. And Amazon had a great price - almost half of what some jewelry stores are charging. One thing that surprised me was that Malaysia is written at the bottom of the face; I thought it would read Japan. Oh well, can't expect that considering the price I guess. Customer Rating: Summary: Watchband Broke Comment: I've had my 173 for less than two years and I have really liked the watch. But recently the band keeper broke and fell off somewhere. Then, just this morning, I noticed the watchband itself has cracked in half and hangs by only a tiny slip of rubber. Replacement bands are expensive ($30-$39) and I am very disappointed in this unplanned expense. Great watch but lousy and overpriced watchband.
